Use your spelling words to complete one activity. Share it with me before the spelling test!
Write riddles with the words (provide answers).
Create a crossword puzzle using your spelling words. You must include clues, just like any normal crossword puzzle.
Write poems using the words.
Use the words to create similes, metaphors, and/or analogies.
Ransom note: Cut letters out of newspaper, magazines, or write them out on paper and cut them out, then glue them together to build your words.
Search for your words in books/texts, around the house, or in the community (take photos).
Write a letter using each of your spelling words.
Try to hide your spelling words within drawings (example 1, example 2, example 3)
Make a comic strip; have the characters use the words in the dialogue
Find 5 words that rhyme with each of your spelling words.
Create alliterated sentences or tongue-twisters using the words.
Using a thesaurus, find synonyms for the words and create super sentences (sentence that seem quite complex with the words you’re using)
Write your spelling words in a pyramid shape. Start with the first letter. On the next line, write the first two letters. On the third line, write the first three letters. Continue until you have written the entire word.
Use the words to create similes, metaphors, and/or analogies.
Write a song or rap that includes your words.
Learn the words in a foreign language (German, French, Latin, sign language, etc.).
Create newspaper headlines using the words.
Write your spelling words, but replace all the consonants with a line. Then go back to the beginning of your list and see if you can fill in the correct missing consonants.
Using a dictionary, define and describe the history of each word.
Create a code using numbers for each letter of the alphabet. Compute the numerical value for each word.
Write your spelling words forwards. Then write them a second time backwards. Then a third time forwards.
Write your spelling words in dots. Then connect the dots by tracing over them with a colored pencil or pencil.
Write your spelling words using varying handwriting styles (fancy letters, bubble letters, etc.).
Write your spelling words on a list, but replace all the vowels with a line. Then go back to the beginning of your list and see if you can fill in the correct missing vowels.
